After a successful tender Linden Services was awarded the contract for the North Downs Way Signage Project.
The North Downs Way is the premier walking route in the South East and as such attracts long distance walkers and day visitors as well as local dog walkers. It is estimated that over ½ million people use the route every year. The North Downs Way also passes close to many small towns and villages. Businesses ranging from pubs, cafes, restaurants and local shops through to bed and breakfasts, hotels and inns all benefit from trail users especially the long distance walkers along the route. Investment in the improved signage will ensure that the North Downs Way continues to be a valuable economic asset to the county, contributing to Kent's £2.5 billion tourism economy.
Linden Services has the job of installing 155 new oak signposts which will be installed at all locations where the North Downs Way joins a road in Kent. 89% are a straight replacement for existing signs of which 10% had been damaged either having fallen or had broken fingers. The current softwood posts and plastic signs that are being removed will be recycled and re used wherever possible across the public rights of way network in kent.
As well as signing the route and indicating the status of the trail in terms of footpath, bridleway, byway or restricted byway, they will also provide additional valuable information about distances to villages and places of interest along the route.
Linden Services has recently been selected for a series of pedestrian bridge improvement work across Canterbury and the surrounding area.
Working closely with the local council we aim to remove and replace over 25 bridges that have been damaged or run down over the years.
The replacement bridges will be of wooden railway sleeper construction and now be fitted with slip inhibiting galvanised weldmesh netting and galvanised hand rails for increased safety and long service life for footpath users.
